Massachusetts State Police: Missing Massachusetts 4-year-old found dead

Massachusetts State Police have recovered the body of a missing 4-year-old.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, Mohamed Fofana of South Boston, was found on the shoreline of Spectacle Island. The location is directly across the water from Castle Island.

At 12:30 p.m., a Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit crew observed the boy’s body on the shore from their boat. Troopers from the MSP Special Emergency Response Team and State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County were ferried to the island by the Marine Unit, and they have confirmed the body to be Mohamed. State Police Crime Scene Services also responded to document the scene of the recovery.

Mohamed will be brought to shore and transferred to the custody of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Mohamed was playing at a park Sunday evening at Castle Island on the South Boston coastline when he went missing. An adult family member was with him.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m., the adult relative lost sight of Mohamed, and upon looking for him, could not find him. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the adult relative called 911 and was connected to the State Police-South Boston Barracks and reported that the boy was missing.

The death investigation is ongoing and is being conducted buy the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County.
