November 23, 2018 — This afternoon, at approximately 12:15 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth responded to reports of a crash, which resulted in a fatality, on Route 195 eastbound in Somerset.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Richard Enos indicates that a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a, 66-year-old male from Somerset, was broken down in the acceleration lane coming from Route 103 eastbound onto Route 195 eastbound. The Somerset man was in front of his vehicle with the hood up.

A Honda Accord driven by a 60-year-old Swansea woman came upon the disabled Dodge and struck it from behind, according to the preliminary investigation. The Dodge was pushed into the Somerset man, with the truck ending up in the ditch on the right side of the road. The Accord ended up in the right and middle travel lanes.

Both operators were transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital.

The operator of the Dodge, the man who was out of his vehicle at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The name of the deceased victim will not be released until notifications have been made to next-of-kin.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Dartmouth Barracks. Troop D Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Somerset Fire Department and Police Department, Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MADOT) all assisted on scene.
