A State Trooper was seriously injured Sunday morning after being hit by a vehicle on a Massachusetts Highway.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 3:15 a.m. a Massachusetts State Trooper responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 93 north in Milton between Exits 3 and 4. A secondary crash involving an approaching vehicle occurred at the scene of the initial crash, causing injuries to the Trooper.

The Trooper injured in the incident, who is male and is assigned to the Milton Barracks, is still undergoing tests/treatment at a Boston hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. There are MSP personnel and family members at the hospital with him.

The Trooper was standing outside of his cruiser, in the process of investigating the initial crash, when he was struck by the approaching vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation in terms of criminal charges.

Only the breakdown lane was open to traffic while the investigation was taking place.

“This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every time they leave home and assume their role as public safety professionals,” State Police Colonel John Mawn Jr. said.
