Massachusetts sees first $1 million Keno prize in Mass State Lottery history

DORCHESTER, MA (March 23, 2023) – A Keno ticket sold for a game that took place Wednesday evening has won the first $1 million prize in the history of the game, which was introduced by the Massachusetts State Lottery in 1993.

In addition to the $1 million prize, one $500,000 prize and four $100,000 prizes were won in the same game. The winning numbers for this game (#2551121) included every number from 1 through 13. The full set of winning numbers were 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-24-28-31-44-53-71-75.

Keno players have the option of selecting from 1 to 12 numbers (spots) to play from a field of numbers from 1 to 80. Prizes and odds of winning vary based on the amount of spots played. For each Keno game, a total of 20 winning numbers are randomly selected.

The $1 million prize was won by a customer who played a 12-spot game with the numbers 1 through 12. The $500,000 prize was won by a customer who played an 11-spot game with the numbers 1 through 11, and the four $100,000 prizes were all won on tickets that played a 10-spot game with the numbers 1 through 10.

“Congratulations to all of the winners and the retailers who sold these tickets,” said Mark William Bracken, Interim Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery. “While a rare occurrence, it shows that the chances of consecutive numbers being selected are the same as the chances of any other set of numbers.”

Zenner’s Pub & Deli receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the $1 million dollar ticket. Atlantic Café has earned a $5,000 bonus and the four locations that sold a $100,000 winning ticket will each receive a $1,000 bonus.

Prizes up to $103,000 can be claimed at all Mass Lottery claim centers, which are located in Braintree, Dorchester (Lottery headquarters), Lawrence, New Bedford, West Springfield, and Worcester. All prizes over $103,000 must be claimed at Lottery headquarters. Regular business hours at all locations are Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding state holidays).
