Massachusetts sees COVID-19 hospitalizations drop for 12 of last 13 days as cases top 93,000

Today, Massachusetts saw a continued decrease in COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations.

Massachusetts has seen 596 more positive cases announced in the last 24 hours. A decrease from the previous 24 hour period.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total cases to 93,271 with 44 more reported dead for a total of 6,416.

Massachusetts had seen 1,013 more positive cases in the previous 24 hour period.

8,188 tests were performed, 3,200 less than the total released yesterday, to increase the overall total to 540,561.

Hospitalizations have decreased in 12 of the last 13 days.

According to the CDC, as of May 25th, the total amount of cases in the country is 1,637,456 with 97,669 dead.

Governor Baker announced what will be reopening on May 25 as part of the tiered COVID-19 plan.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito joined legislative leaders and local officials today to recognize Memorial Day in a virtual ceremony. Secretary of Veterans’ Services Francisco Ureña, Senate President Karen Spilka, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs Co-Chairs Senator Walter F. Timility and Representative Linda Dean Campbell provided video remarks, and the Massachusetts National Guard performed a special Tribute to the Fallen Wreath Ceremony.

The flags presented to Governor Baker and Major General Gary W. Keefe by the Color Guard during this ceremony have flown above the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, and the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, as a mark of solemn respect and in honor of the veterans lost during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

In addition the virtual Memorial Day Ceremony, through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the Department of Veterans’ Services, building managers and Veterans Service Officers across the Commonwealth, buildings, bridges, flags, and parks throughout the Commonwealth were illuminated in gold to honor Gold Star Families last night including Fall River Government Center.
