Massachusetts schools see nearly 1,000 COVID-19 cases from January 21 to 27, Fall River top in state, NB not far behind
COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools slightly increased this week along with an increase in some area communities.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 624 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from January 21 to January 27. 345 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 969.
The last report, which was for January 14 to January 20, revealed that 938 tested positive. 541 of the positives were students and 397 were staff.
The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.
Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from January 21 to January 27.
Acushnet: 2 students and 1 staff
Attleboro: 1 student
Dartmouth: 2 students and 4 staff
Fairhaven: No cases
Fall River: 4 students and 23 staff
New Bedford: 11 students and 9 staff
Plymouth: 4 students
Seekonk: No cases
Somerset: 2 students and 1 staff
Swansea: 4 students and 3 staff
Taunton: No cases
Westport: 1 student and 3 staff
Fall River had the most overall cases in the state and the most staff cases despite the modified hybrid model. New Bedford had second most staff cases and the fourth most overall cases.
