Massachusetts schools see highest week of COVID-19 cases to date with 286 positives

The latest figures concerning COVID-19 in Massachusetts schools have been released.

The report by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reveals that 286 tested positive. 201 of the positives were students and 85 were staff in the time period between October 22 and October 28.

The report from the week prior revealed that 202 tested positive. 129 of the positives were students and 73 were staff in the time period between October 15 and October 21.

The report from the week previous to that revealed 160 tested positive. 92 of the positives were students and 68 were staff in the time period between October 8 and October 14.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from October 22 and October 28.

Attleboro: 4 students
Fall River: 1 student and 2 staff
Dartmouth: 4 students
Fairhaven: 3 students
New Bedford: 5 students and 4 staff
Plymouth: 1 student and 1 staff
Seekonk: 1 student
Somerset: 0
Swansea: 2 students and 1 staff
Taunton: 1 student and 3 staff
Westport: 1 student
