Massachusetts man sentenced for role in Eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, drug trafficking organization after 12 kilos seized

BOSTON – A Randolph man was sentenced in federal court in Boston for his role in a drug trafficking organization that shipped dozens of parcels containing kilograms of cocaine from Puerto Rico to various addresses throughout Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. 

According to the Massachusetts Department of Justice, 37-year-old Patrick Rinvil was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release. In December 2023, Rinvil pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

Rinvil was identified as a drug courier for a DTO that trafficked kilograms cocaine from Puerto Rico through the mail. The cocaine inside these packages was typically hidden inside innocuous consumer goods, such as air fryers. The packages were addressed to various addresses in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Rinvil and others were responsible for picking up the packages and transporting the cocaine to other various stash locations in Massachusetts. In May 2021, a search of Rinvil’s apartment, which was also being used as a one of the stash locations, resulted in the seizure of 12 kilograms of cocaine.

Mawn Jr., Interim Colonel of the Massachusetts State Police; and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox made the announcement. The Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division and Homeland Security Investigations in Boston provided assistance with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Philip C. Cheng and James E. Arnold of the Criminal Division prosecuted the case.
