Massachusetts man goes missing after jumping in water to aid riders
A Massachusetts man has gone missing after trying to help those who fell in the water.
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, yesterday evening, PCSO Dispatch received a 911 call about a person in distress in Lake Tahoe.
PCSO and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the area of Dollar Point Pier and located a vessel nearby with 13 passengers. The boaters advised that they had been towing three people on an inner-tube when two of the riders fell into the water and became distressed.
The boat operator, Sayen Sengupta, 27, of Boston, Massachusetts dove into the water to assist the riders. He was last seen swimming towards them when he slipped underwater. He did not resurface.
PCSO’s Marine 6 & Marine 6 Alpha are continuing the search today with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office & the Douglas County (NV) Sheriff’s Office.
