Massachusetts daily case count nearly doubles, hospitalizations and active cases continue decline

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, average positive test rate, and hospitalizations in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 657 more positive cases announced today, an increase from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased from 1.14% to 1.03%, the lowest since September 27th.

Massachusetts had seen 337 more positive cases announced yesterday which was the lowest since September.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 656,344 with 5 reported dead (5 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,747 (17,389 confirmed, 358 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 22,320,294 after 89,990 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths increased from 6.0 to 6.9. Wednesday’s 5.4 rate was the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 400+ to 14,396. In the last 24 days, active cases have decreased by almost 19,800.

Hospitalizations have increased in 91 of the last 187 days, but saw a decrease of 24 to lower the total to 352. Hospitalizations have decreased in 22 of the last 25 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Today’s total of 352 active hospitalizations was the lowest since October 19th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the May 13th report, Fall River has a 19.7 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (21.4 last week). New Bedford, who has the highest rate in Bristol County, saw a decrease to 29.1 (was 32.0). Westport saw a decrease to 11.1 (was 19.2), Swansea is at 14.8, a decrease, and was 17.0 last week. Somerset saw an increase as they sit at 14.3 (was 13.9). Freetown stands at 9.5, a decrease from 16.6. Dartmouth is currently at 13.3, a decrease from last week’s 19.4. Acushnet increased to 24.6 (was 23.9). Berkley is at 10.5 and was 22.0 last week.

6 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 13 last week. 26 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Edgartown, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, and Taunton.
