Massachusetts COVID-19 confirmed and probable deaths pass 14,700, positive test rate drops to 3.30%

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases and positive test rate in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 2,186 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw yet another decrease to 3.30%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 1,963 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 504,564 with 56 more reported dead (53 confirmed, 3 probable) for a total of 14,708 (14,415 confirmed, 293 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 13,874,158 after 91,693 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 49.4.

Estimated active cases saw another decrease to 64,431.

Hospitalizations have increased in 91 of the last 140 days and 66 of the last 99 and saw an increase of 4 to raise the total to 1,635. COVID-19 hospitalizations have continued to decrease as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Before today’s increase, December 10th was the last time that COVID-19 hospitalizations were this low.

According to the January 28th report, Fall River has a 99.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (143.2 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 107.3 (was 133.3) and has the highest rate in Bristol County. Westport is also in the red at 63.5 (was 95.9), Swansea is at 86.0 and was 104.3 last week. Somerset also saw a decrease as they sit at 79.1 (was 93.7). Freetown decreased to 78.1 from 107.3. Dartmouth is currently at 68.0 after seeing 97.0 last week. Acushnet has the second highest rate in Bristol County at 105.3 (was 167.5).
