Massachusetts active virus cases, hospitalizations continue decline, average positive test rate 1.56%
Massachusetts saw a decrease in cases, active cases, average positive test rate, and hospitalizations in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts saw 1,115 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased slightly from 1.65%, to 1.56%, the lowest since October 22nd.
Massachusetts had seen 1,179 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 646,982 with 7 more reported dead (7 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,617 (17,266 confirmed, 351 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 21,448,496 after 99,287 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths decreased by 0.3 to 9.3. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.
Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 800+ to 24,631. In the last 11 days, active cases have decreased by almost 8,400.
Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 173 days, but saw a decrease of 18 to lower the total to 541. Hospitalizations have decreased in 9 of the last 11 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Today’s total of 541 active hospitalizations is the lowest since November 6th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the April 29th report, Fall River has a 25.8 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (32.4 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 35.0 (was 36.9). Westport saw a decrease to 22.6 (was 23.5), Swansea is at 26.4, a decrease, and was 34.0 last week. Somerset saw a decrease as they sit at 17.4 (was 25.8). Freetown stands at 19.7 a decrease from 22.1. Dartmouth is currently at 18.7, a decrease from last week’s 22.3. Acushnet increased to 30.1 (was 24.6). Berkley has the highest rate in Bristol County at 39.8 and was 48.2 last week.
26 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 48 last week. 59 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Berkley, Brockton, Chicopee, Dracut, Edgartown, Fall River, Hampden, Haverhill, Lawrence, Littleton, Lowell, Lynn, Methuen, Nantucket, New Bedford, Palmer, Revere, Southbridge, Southwick, Springfield, Taunton, Tisbury, Wareham, Winchendon and Yarmouth.
Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on April 29th.

As of April 30th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 32,091,429 cases of COVID-19 with 572,190 reported deaths (5/1 report yet to be released).
