Man allegedly fights with and spits on Dartmouth officers, threatens to murder them

DARTMOUTH, MA – On Friday, June 12, 2020 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Dartmouth Police were dispatched to the area of Walgreens on State Road to check on the welfare of a man lying in the grass.

Upon arrival, officers identified the man as Denis Alekseyevich Shelagin, 36, homeless.

According to Dartmouth Police, after Shelagin was advised that he was going to be placed in protective custody based on his level of intoxication, he spit on officers and began to fight with them. During the altercation, Shelagin also threatened to murder the officers.

Shelagin was eventually placed under arrest, and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital to be evaluated.

As a result of the incident, Shelagin was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and four counts of threats to commit a crime (to wit assault and battery and murder).

No officers were seriously injured during the altercation.
