Local man held without bail in Superior Court after allegedly breaking into Fall River home, attacking homeowner with knife
A local man faced a judge Friday after previously being arrested by Fall River Police late last year.
According to police, on December 27th, the Fall River Police Patrol Bureau responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on the 1000 block of Laurel Street. An unknown male later identified as 28-year-old Gahetan Fall River Police have made an arrest concerning an incident that took place over the weekend.
The victim was stabbed multiple times. Family members witnessed the assault, attempted to intervene, and briefly restrained Jean-Louis before he fled the residence. A black folding pocket knife was later located on the stairs and secured as evidence.
Officers quickly located and detained Jean-Louis nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to a trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on the investigation, Gahetan Jean-Louis was charged with Home Invasion and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
In Fall River District Court, he was ordered by the court to be evaluated for competency to stand trial at Bridgewater State Hospital.
In January, Jean-Louis was ruled incompetent to stand trial.
On Friday, in Fall River Superior Court, Jean-Louis pled not guilty and was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 11th.
