A crash last night at about 11:00 p.m. on Route 95 in Attleboro resulted in serious injuries and one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Best indicates that a 24-year-old Pawtucket, Rhode Island man was traveling on Route 95 Southbound south of Exit 2 in a 2009 Volvo C70 when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash in the roadway, coming to rest in the left and middle travel lanes. The operator and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman, also from Pawtucket, ended up outside the vehicle after the crash. A 2011 BMW 328xi operated by a 17-year-old was traveling southbound around this time and struck the Volvo. The occupants of the Volvo were also then struck. It is unclear at this time whether they were struck by the BMW or by their own vehicle when it was struck by the BMW.

The two occupants of the Volvo were both transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The passenger in the Volvo C70 was pronounced deceased today at Rhode Island Hospital. She has been identified as Erica Hopkins of Pawtucket, R.I. The operator of the BMW was uninjured in the crash.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, Troop H detectives, and Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Attleboro Fire and EMS, Attleboro Police, and MassDOT.
