Fall River and New Bedford Police combined to arrest a suspect in a recent city shooting with injuries.
According to Fall River Police, on Friday, members of the Major Crimes Division were alerted that one of the suspects in the Cash Street shooting, 18-year-old Bruno Darosa, had been observed by New Bedford Police Detectives entering a residence on Coffin Avenue in New Bedford.
FRPD Detectives then traveled to New Bedford to establish surveillance at the location while simultaneously preparing a search warrant to search the residence for Darosa and evidence related to the Cash Street shooting. With the assistance of the Emergency Services Unit, Community Action & Suppression Team, and Crime Scene Unit, a search warrant was executed at the Coffin Avenue residence.
During the entry into the building, multiple individuals attempted to hide from members of the ESU. During the search, a firearm was discarded into a toilet in an unsecured apartment. After discovering the firearm and completing a sweep of the apartment, investigators obtained a second search warrant to search the apartment, attic, and basement for additional evidence related to the shooting.
Investigators ultimately recovered a Smith & Wesson .380-caliber firearm equipped with a laser attachment, along with a loaded eight-round magazine, from the toilet. Further examination determined that the firearm did not bear a serial number.
Additionally, Bruno Darosa was located by ESU members attempting to hide in the attic. He was taken into custody, transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, and later booked at Fall River Police Department Headquarters. The investigators’ efforts also led to the apprehension of a fugitive wanted in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in New Bedford.
Burno Darosa was charted with Firearm, Carry Without License Loaded; B&E Vehicle/Boat Nighttime For Felony; Larceny Under $1200; Firearm, Carry Without License; A&B With Firearm; Vandalize Property; Firearm, Discharge Within 500 Ft Of Bldg; and Larceny of Credit Card.
