Here are the activities taking place in October at Heritage State Park in Fall River

Here is the schedule for October programming at Heritage State Park.

All programs are free and open to the public. The Visitor Center is located at 100 Davol Street in the Captain Thomas J. Hudner, Jr. Memorial Building. Free parking is available in the DCR parking lot at 5 Water Street in Fall River. An adult must accompany children. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request. Wheelchair accessible. Exhibit, Films, and Community Gallery
Explore our permanent exhibit celebrating the cultural, ethnic, and industrial history of Fall River. Learn about the waterfalls that shaped the city, enabled its industries, and even gave it its name. Films and temporary exhibitions highlight stories of the city and community.

DAILY FILM: THE FABRIC OF FALL RIVER
11:45 am, 1:45 pm, Visitor Center Theater
Explore Fall River’s rich past, from the First People through the cotton mill era, to the needle trades of the 1980s. For ages 8+ years. Film 34 minutes.

DAILY FIVE FILM FEATURETTES: A TRIBUTE TO CAPTAIN THOMAS J. HUDNER & ENSIGN JESSE L. BROWN
10:00 am, Visitor Center Theater
Discover the true story behind the theatrical hit film “Devotion” and the amazing friendship of Fall River’s own Captain Thomas J. Hudner and his navy partner Ensign Jesse Brown, the first Black naval pilot. Join us in our comfortable theater. Runtime approx. 30 minutes.

DAILY CREATION STATION ACTIVITIES
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Get creative! Stop by the Visitor Center, grab one of our unique coloring sheets of moments in Fall River History. Learn about textiles and calico and help us complete our calico stamp wall or even weave a row on our community loom. If you complete an entire row, you too can add your name tag! This is a drop-in program. Stay for the duration or drop in for a few moments. For all ages.

DAILY SING! THE SESAME STREET® WORLD OF COMPOSER JOE RAPOSO
8:30 am—3:30 pm
Celebrate the creative genius of a local hero: Joseph Guilherme Raposo, the son of immigrants became one of the creators of Sesame Street®. Drop in and take a photo with an image of Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster or many of their friends. See our exhibit on the life of Joe Raposo with him and his friends Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, President Jimmy Carter, First Lady Nancy Reagan and so many more!

ORANGE BILLOWS, Original Sculpture Celebrating the Textile Traditions of Fall River
9:00 am– 3:00 pm, Lobby of Visitor Center
“Orange Billows” is an original sculpture that will connect the rich history of the textile industry of Fall River, with the natural setting of the harbor.

OCTOBER 14TH
LET FREEDOM RING! WHY YOUR VOTE MATTERS AND HOW WE GOT HERE: A GLIMPSE OF HISTORY & VOTING RIGHTS
1:00 pm-3:00 pm Visitor Center Lobby and Theater
Celebrate your right to vote. Learn how it was earned for everyone. Exhibits, including “Rightfully Hers”, from the National Archives Museum, will enlighten and educate. Illusionist Lyn Dillies will dazzle. Re-enactors will take you back to another time. Need to register to vote? Do it here. Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public. Presented by Creative Arts Network (CAN) and funded in part by the Mass Cultural Council.

OCTOBER 15TH & 22ND
GET CREATIVE WITH THE GREATER FALL RIVER ART ASSOCIATION!
Noon-3:00 pm, Meet in the Visitor Center
Release your inner craft genius. Learn from the Masters! Artists from the GFRAA will guide you as you create masks and kites! October 15th: Create Your Own Mask October 22nd: Decorate a Kite! Program open and free of charge. All materials will be provided free.

SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS
WALKING TOUR: WATER + GRANITE + GRAVITY= FALL RIVER
Noon-1:00 pm, Meet at the Front Desk in the Visitor Center
Without the water of the Taunton and Quequechan Rivers, the granite cliffs, the power of gravity, and the waterfalls that they produced, there would be no Fall River. Discover more about these important factors on a guided tour on the park grounds.

SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS
WALKING TOUR: NATURE PAST AND PRESENT
10:00 -11:00 am, meet in the Visitor Center
Join us for a nature walk along the Boardwalk to learn of the water changes and wildlife of the river in the past, and the natural history today. There is a whole lot of living going on! Easy walk, accessible. Suitable for all ages. Rain cancels. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
