Authorities are investigating after a wife was found dead and a husband is fighting for his life after a shooting.

According to Det. Lt. Ryan DeSisto, on Tuesday just after 2:45 p.m., Coventry Police and Fire Departments responded to Mulberry Court for a reported accidental shooting.

Responding officers located 60-year-old Linda Beckman of Mulberry Court who was later pronounced deceased on scene by Coventry Firefighters.

Officers also located 61-year-old James Beckman, also of Mulberry Court, suffering from life threatening injuries. He was transported to Kent Hospital and later to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Beckman is a retired Cranston Deputy Fire Chief.

Additionally, two family dogs at the residence were also found deceased.

Coventry Detectives are investigating the shooting as suspicious and remain in contact with the RI Medical Examiner’s and Attorney General’s Offices.

DeSisto stated that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

Linda was being remembered today by those who knew her as a wonderful person with a heart of gold that loved life. Friends of the couple were still understandably shocked and saddened over the loss.

No additional information was released by police due to the ongoing investigation.

He shot her in the back of the head, killed their dogs and tried to kill himself. What other details are needed!

all I can say is that I was blessed to have known Linda. Cory planned the cruises with them and I Really got to know a special person. she was a wonderful mom and fur baby mom. she loved her dogs. during one of the trips her dogs tore up the place and she just laughed. she would also talk about her boys and her cooking. she just brought a smile to my face and heart.
