A building that hasn’t been in use after the ICE contract under Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson was terminated, is now being transformed.

According to the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, the former ICE building is now on its way to being their brand-new Training Academy.

The building has been vacant for over three years but will now be a dedicated space for the training staff, K-9 and recruitment officers, and the Sheriff’s Response Team.

After meeting with the state building inspector, electrical inspector, and fire sprinkler companies to ensure the plans were up to code, Sheriff Heroux’s team applied for the necessary permits and got to work.

The plans include the construction of three classrooms, a storage area for SRT equipment, a Range 3000 room (simulated firearm range), and two mock cells to assist with training new officers.

All of the construction, wiring, and IT work is being completed in house, according to Heroux.

“This project will save taxpayer funds by allowing the BCSO to move these resources on to our property instead of leasing a different building as we currently do- it will actually cost less to do all of this construction than lease the space we currently do for one year! Thank you to our incredible maintenance team for their hard work in bringing this project to life.”
