The first reported case of COVID-19 in the Fall River school system has been announced.

According to the Herald News, a staff member at the Carlton M. Viveiros Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. Two staff members have also been quarantined for coming in contact with the infected staff member.

Principal Tricia Whitty sent out an e-mail to staff members over the weekend stating that a staff member had tested positive for the virus.

No children were reportedly in contact with the staff member and the staff who came in contact with the ill co-worker had done so before children went back to school.

The contact tracing protocol was reportedly followed through the Fall River Board of Health.

Due to HIPAA laws, the names of both the ill staff member and those being quarantined, cannot be released by the school or Board of Health.

Those in quarantine reportedly have no COVID-19 symptoms and are awaiting test results.
