The Fall River School Committee will be holding a special meeting according to the City’s website.

On the meeting agenda, which is to be held Thursday, the committee will discuss and vote to appoint an interim Superintendent of Schools.

Also on the agenda, the committee is scheduled to go into executive session to discuss contract negotiations concerning the current Superintendent, Dr. Matthew Malone.

At the beginning of June, Malone had issued a statement notifying that he would be resigning effective November 1st.

City officials, including School Committee member Kevin Aguiar and City Council President Cliff Ponte Jr., have stated that they wanted Malone to resign immediately.

Ponte even issued a statement on Malone’s pending resignation

There had been repeated calls by Fall River politicians and residents for Malone to step down after allegations of harassment had emerged along with the death of a student

Before his pending resignation, Malone had been penalized with a cut in pay by the School Committee after the investigation against him.
