Fall River salon giving free prom hair styles to foster children

A Fall River salon that is known for giving back to the community is once again reaching out. This time for prom season.

Owner and Founder of BEC Salon and Nutrition, Michelle Carvalho, is familiar with giving back to the community, but this time she wanted to do something different.

“Every year I feed the homeless on Christmas Day and I wanted to do something different in the spring time. I know there are a lot of kids in foster care that maybe don’t have the funds, or the families themselves don’t have the funds, to get their hair and makeup done. Prom is a huge thing for teenagers and they should all have the opportunity to feel like a prince or princess for their special night.”

Carvalho not only wants to give back, but wants to set an example.

“Giving back to the community is a huge deal for me. I want to make sure my children know how important it is to help those in need and how lucky they are to have everything they need.”

BEC Salon and Nutrition is located at 421 2nd Street.

Those in foster care looking for a free hairstyle or haircut must set your appointment in advance as they book up quickly for prom. You also must provide a letter from your case worker.

BEC is open Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
