Fall River Police developing strategy to combat illegal dirt bike/ATV riders after city incidents
Illegal dirt bike and ATV riding has been a cause of contention for some time among residents in this city and beyond and Fall River Police are looking to crack down on the activity.
According to Captain Barden Castro, officers on Friday, at approximately 3:20 p.m., were investigating a motor vehicle collision and directing traffic when they observed several dirt bikes/ATV driving up and down Plymouth Avenue.
Castro stated that the dirt bikes were not involved in the accident which had occurred, but were causing a disruption to traffic and were being operated illegally on city streets. Officers were unable to safely stop the ATV riders Friday evening.
“The department will be examining strategies to ensure that all users of the roads are able to do so in a legal and safe manner.”
Incidents like the one Friday have become a daily occurrence in the city. Last year the Fall River Police put a dent into the problem and Castro says that the department will build on what took place in 2021.
“As you may know we had a plan that was utilized last year and we will be building on that plan as well as speaking with neighboring police departments to see what strategies they have employed in regard to this issue.”
