A Fall River man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempting to disarm a police officer on Friday.

44-year-old Luis Negron has been sentenced to 3 years in prison (time served) followed by 2 years of probation, according to the Fall River Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

Information released by Fall River Police/Bristol County District Attorney’s Office stated that on April 13, 2020, Fall River Police responded to the South Main Street parking lot of K & S Laundromat for a report of a possible carjacking.

When police arrived, the alleged victim told authorities he had been working on his car when Negron allegedly approached while pointing a gun and accused him of having an affair with his girlfriend.

Negron ordered the man get into his vehicle, but the victim refused. Negron then entered the car himself and attempted to drive the car, but then fled when the engine would not start.

Due to the assistance of witnesses on scene, officers were able to track Negron to an address on Ridge Street. An officer found Negron hiding in the basement, and during a struggle, he allegedly tried to grab the officer’s service weapon.

Among the probation stipulations for Negron is he is to have no contact with the victims and is not allowed to possess weapons, drugs, explosives, firearms or ammunition.
