Fall River man pleads guilty, sentenced to prison in murder of his son David Almond
A Fall River man who was previously arraigned on murder and other charges in Superior Court concerning the death of his son has pled guilty.
According to the Fall River Superior Court Clerk’s Office, 35-year-old John Almond admitted to his role in the death of David Almond and was sentenced to life in prison after pleading to second degree murder. He will be eligible for parole in 20 years.
Almond, and his girlfriend Jacyln Marie Coleman, were indicted on charges of second-degree murder and Neglect of a Disabled Person–Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
Almond and Coleman were previously arraigned in Fall River on the above charges and entered a not guilty plea. Both were committed without bail.
At around 7:45 a.m. on October 21st, 2020, Fall River Police received a 911 call regarding an unresponsive male at 107 Green Street. When police arrived on scene, they found 14-year-old David Almond to be covered in feces and living in abhorrent conditions.
David Almond, who suffered from an intellectual disability, was rushed to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, police and prosecutors also determined that one of David Almond’s triplet brothers, Michael Almond, was the victim of neglect. He was found in emaciated condition and was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment.
David Almond was 5’10” and approximately 80 pounds at the time he was discovered by authorities.
During an arraignment, it was stated that preliminary exams revealed that both brothers had fentanyl in their system. Heroin was reportedly found in the apartment.
