Fall River man involved in armed robbery sentenced to prison
A 39-year-old Fall River man involved in the armed robbery of a Subway sandwich shop employee on Mariano Bishop Boulevard in Fall River two years ago was sentenced to serve three to four years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Jason Gray, who has served jail time at least five times during the past two decades for crimes ranging from illegal firearm possession to possession of burglarious tools, pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court on Monday to an indictment charging him with armed robbery.
On July 6, 2017, the Subway employee was approached by a still unidentified man who threatened the employee with a gun and demanded the money bags he was holding. After taking the bags, the robber jumped on to a moped which was being operated by this defendant. The moped sped off, but was followed by a witness to the Sky Beverage property in Fall River. When police arrived, they located this defendant a short distance away from the moped.
The police then viewed video surveillance from Sky Beverage and observed the moped driving onto the grounds. The video shows the moped driving to the wood line, where the moped was located by the police. The video shows the defendant walking away from the moped. The victim was brought to Sky Beverage for a show up identification procedure.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Karen Green.
“The defendant has a history of committing crimes and serving jail sentences,” District Attorney Quinn said. “This case again highlights the importance of surveillance video in solving crimes and taking dangerous people of our streets.”
