Police arrested a Fall River man early this morning.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 12:07 a.m., Trooper Joseph Kubicek, who is assigned to the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks, observed a Honda pass by him on Middle Street in the city of Fall River. Trooper Kubicek observed a motor vehicle violation, turned around to catch up to the vehicle, which then sped off at a high rate and began turning and traveling onto several streets. The suspect vehicle appeared to be attempting to avoid Trooper Kubicek. Trooper Kubicek eventually stopped the Honda as it pulled to the right and stopped on Third Street in Fall River.

The driver was asked to produce a license and registration, which he refused to do. When Trooper Kubicek asked for the driver’s name, he again refused. The driver, subsequently identified as Channara M. Samreth, 27, of Fall River, was removed from the Honda and placed in custody.

Samreth was subsequently found to be unlicensed, with learner’s permit only, and to be in possession of a Star semi-auto .45 caliber loaded firearm. Samreth is not licensed to carry a firearm.

Samreth was brought to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks for booking and was charged with MV Operator refuse to identify self, Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Speeding, Fail to stop/yield, Possession of/carrying a firearm, Possession of ammunition without FID card; and Improper storage of a firearm.

Samreth was transported to the Ash Street Jail, pending arraignment this morning in Fall River District Court.
