One was cited and a dirt bike rider was seriously injured after a crash Saturday afternoon in Fall River.

According to Det. Sgt. Moses Pereira, at approximately 4:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Robeson Street and President Avenue in response to a collision between a Buick sedan and a Kawasaki dirt bike.

Witnesses on scene reported to Officer Brendan McNerney that the operator of the Kawasaki had been speeding, weaving in-and-out of traffic, and performing “wheelies” as it traveled North on Robeson Street.

As the dirt bike approached the intersection of Robeson Street and President Avenue, the Kawasaki collided with the Buick which was turning east onto President Avenue. The collision caused the operator of the Kawasaki to be ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway.

The operator of the Kawasaki, a 23-year-old Fall River man was transported to Rhode Island hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was cited for Negligent Operation, Operating a recreational vehicle on a public way, unregistered recreational vehicle, and a recreational vehicle equipment violation.

A passenger in the Buick was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The operator, an 89-year-old Westport man did not require medical assistance.

It was initially reported by FRPD that the Westport man was issued a citation for an improper turn, however, PD contacted Fall River Reporter on Monday morning to state that he was not cited.

The idiot on the dirt bike shouldn’t have been on the road so he got what he deserved. The operator of the Buick should not have been cited because if the bike wasn’t there no accident would have occurred.

The rider is a good kid and he was starting to get his life together. Obviously the driver was at fault and almost killed the kid.

FRPD could easily stop the dirt bike racers because they hang out on Pleasant Street and the cops drove right by them on their way to Pizza Time. The people in the Flint have made tons of complaints and nothing is done. They race from Pleasant through Lafayette Park and the wrong way on Eastern Ave, police do nothing.

This is not some kiddie game! These people surrounded my wife’s car one day near Aldi’s with some big guy on a real street bike blocking ALL traffic for atv’s and dirt bikes. they kicked cars and screamed obscenities as they flew by. These are NOT good kids, they are ignorant adult scum in training.

These dirt bikes are out of control. A group doing wheelies last week directly in front of me on Plymouth Ave. where are the police patrols?
