Fact Check: No, Jasiel Correia is not stepping down or accepting a plea deal today
Social media is great for spreading rumors that have no or little base on facts. The latest rumor is that Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia will announce this evening that he is stepping down as mayor, suspending his campaign, and accepting a 7-year plea deal. Here’s an example and possibly the original source:
We asked Mayor Correia for a statement regarding these claims and he stated: “they are absolutely not true.” He confirmed that he is holding a campaign event this evening, but it is for a planned campaign strategy event. He also denied that he accepted a plea deal with the U.S. attorney’s office regarding his federal indictments.

Just another reason social media is a complete cesspool of misinformation. Best thing I ever did was delete Facebook over five years ago. Never looking back!

Smart move. Social media is the cesspool of the hive mind. Only those who feed on the swill of the mainstream news gods are allowed to scatter their regurgitated lies.
