Driver arrested after Newport crash Tuesday evening

Police have arrested a man that crashed into a home in Newport Tuesday evening.

According to the Newport Police Department, at approximately 7:16 p.m., officers responded to 23 Bowery Street for a crash into a building.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed a corvette crashed into the area of the building’s electrical meter and gas meter. There was also structural damage to the building as well. National Grid and a building inspector were summoned to the scene to assess the damage.

The driver, a 66 year old male, suffered minor injuries from the crash and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. No other injures were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
