After clearing the initial suspect, Dartmouth Police identified the actual suspect concerning fraudulent purchases.

Police had posted video camera footage of a woman who had reportedly committed the act at Burlington Coat Factory. DPD then determined that she wasn’t the suspect and issued a statement.

“Earlier today we posted an image of a female who was a person of interest in an incident involving the fraudulent use of a stolen credit card.

“With the full cooperation of the female, who contacted us immediately, we were able to establish that she was not involved in the incident. In addition, as a result of her cooperation, we were able to identify the true suspect.

“After determining that the female was not involved, we immediately removed and archived the post.

“Though the use of both video and social media is a tremendous, and, for the most part, extremely successful method with helping identify suspects and solve crimes, on rare occasion, unintentional mistakes can be made by those either directly or indirectly involved in the investigation.

“Moving forward, it is our sincere hope that you will continue to work with us in an effort to provide true and accurate information to the public, in an effort to achieve the common goal of making Dartmouth a safer community.”
