Crews respond to report of bridge jumper at the Sakonnet River Bridge
Local personnel responded for a report of a bridge jumper on Friday afternoon.
Just after 4:15 p.m. a call came into dispatch for a bridge jumper on the Sakonnet River Bridge in Portsmouth.
The Marine Taskforce was activated in addition to Bristol, Tiverton, and Portsmouth crews responding.
Personnel also responded to a medical emergency taking place on the bridge. It was unclear at the time if the two incidents were related.
According to scanner transmissions, a man was placed into handcuffs on the bridge that fit the description of the bridge jumper.
It was later confirmed that the man in custody was in fact the reported jumper.
All crews searching the water then returned to service.
