MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police Chief Joseph Perkins reports that the Middleborough Police Department arrested a school employee on charges of assaulting a child.

On Friday, November 17th at just after 3:30 p.m., Middleborough Police responded to a call at READS Collaborative, 44 Bedford Street, stating an employee had assaulted a student. The Collaborative provides therapeutic services for students with a wide range of challenges.

Through an initial investigation, police learned that 50-year-old Steven Adamec of Attleboro, an Adjustment Counselor, struck a 10-year-old student across the side of their face following an argument.

Police subsequently determined that Adamec dragged the student by the arm and pushed him into a door while escorting him out of a classroom. Adamec then used his left hand to strike the student across the side of their face.

Adamec was placed under arrest at the school by the Middleborough Police Department and transported to the Middleborough Police Station to be booked.

He was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on a Child with Injury, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Threat to Commit Crime/Solicitation of a Crime, and Assault and Battery on Person with Intellectual Disability.

READS Collaborative, in a letter to parents, stated that Adamec no longer works at their location as of Friday.

Adamec was arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court. According to ABC6, he pled not guilty and allegedly threatened to kill the student.
