Cause revealed in early morning fire at Fall River homeless encampment

Crews responded in Fall River Tuesday morning to a large outside fire at a camp.

According to Captain Eric Caffrey, just after 2:00 a.m., the Fall River Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 83 Club Street for a reported outside fire.

The Dispatch Center received multiple calls that flames could be seen at the camp on Club Street.

When the Fire Department arrived on scene, part of the camp near a wooden fence was on fire that extended to a tent.

Apparatus responding were Car 3, Engine’s 2 and 5, Ladder 2 on the first alarm.

The fire was declared out just before 2:30 a.m., and fire crews were checking for hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

The last units cleared just after 3:00 a.m.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unintentional/accidental.

    The headline says the cause of the fire has been revealed. All the story says is it was accidental.

    What was the cause? Spontaneous combustion?

      Unintentional/accidental means someone accidently set the fire. Examples of that would be a cigarette butt or a cooking mishap. FD did not elaborate further.
