UPDATE: Man cited, injured, in Second Street building crash
A building known in the city for its special artwork was severely damaged Saturday afternoon.
Lavoie and Tavares Painters at 248 2nd Street has grabbed the attention of many with the painted portraits of Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Lucille Ball, John Wayne, and Saint Teresa of Calcutta on the side of the building. Saturday the building grabbed attention due to a vehicle crashing through the front of the structure.
The crash occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. with the building inspector arriving a short time later.
According to Sergeant J.T. Hoar of the Fall River Police, the operator of the vehicle in the one car crash was identified as Michael Resendes, 36. He stated that he fell asleep at the wheel causing him to leave the lane of travel and collide with the building. He was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital for further treatment of minor injuries.
He will be summonsed to court for negligent operation and marked lanes violation.
The building is right next to the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum.
