Bristol County restaurant expresses frustration in today’s climate trying to stay affordable for families
A Bristol County restaurant gave some insight into what eatery owners are dealing with in the current climate.
The Star Drive-In on Myricks Street in East Taunton took to social media Wednesday to express their frustration.
“I need 3 minutes to vent and then I will be there again tomorrow to do it all over again! Tonight, a customer walked in and ordered a Chow Mein Sandwich $6 (it’s huge, made in-house with tons of pork and beef, only Fall River Noodles which we source and pick up and a Fish and Chips $16.99 (1/2 pound of Only Fresh Haddock, fries, coleslaw and homemade tartar). She paid and after 6-8 minutes she came back up to the window and said she wanted to cancel the order because everything was too expensive. We asked what was too expensive and she said both the Chow Mein and the Haddock. She wanted to be reimbursed. We had the order nearly completed, obliged and threw it away.”
“Please know, I have not increased our menu prices since Pre-Covid. I know I need to in order to survive. But I’ve held off, because I’ve always strived to be Family Affordable.”
“Min. Wage goes up again Jan.1st to $15.00 per hour, utilities are up, every vendor is now charging gas and transport fees, packaging and take out supplies are up not 10-20% but 40-50%.”
“We are not expensive, but if you think we are, please do not order, pay and then cancel your order. We have a huge menu and something for every family budget. End Rant.”
The restaurant business can be a difficult one. What are your thoughts?

I am so sorry that person treated you so badly. I love going out to eat. I think most people understand how hard the restaurant staff and owners work. I love supporting local owner and always tip my servers.

Shame on her! This is the worse economy since I can remember and everything is through the roof because of poor leadership. Fuel prices effect everything we consume #1. #2 Massachusetts voters in their infinite wisdom voted to only allow range free eggs to be sold in the state. So more money for eggs in Massachusetts even before shipping costs. There are similar bills that are going to affect the price of pork. IF you haven’t raised prices since pre-COVID you are a better person for it. PS – have you fixed the soft serve machine yet? it hasn’t been working my last couple of visits. See you soon!!!

Brandon is doing such a bang up job killing America. Everyone suffers but the criminals and illegals. I will always go to a mom and pop over any left leaning policy box top.

You’re an idiot. Biden is so far superior to his predecessor that there’s no comparison.

Biden’s killed no Americans. The idiot who preceded him killed about half a million of us through his botched response to COVID.

I think in this economy your prices are very reasonable.. I’ve been to your restaurant many times and have no complaints, she paid the bill if she thought it was expensive she could have decided to cancel it then.

That’s totally wrong. I have a few choice words but I’ll leave it at that. Two meals for under 25 dollars is great in these times, plus why wait to cancel your a better person than I .I’ve been to star drive- in many times with no complaints. Keep up the good work.

That is totally disgusting. They had the menu and prices. I’d bet they do this at other places also.
The Star Drive-In has a wonderful reputation. We eat there at times and also do take-out. We need to support our local establishments.

I operate a family owned business that has thrived since 1975. We are recognized worldwide and have shipped our products everywhere. We are a 98% percent wholesale business and have been providing food retailers and our customers with baked goods consistently and with pride for nearly 5 decades. My wife and I are second generation owners and we value hard work like we value breathing. The economic environment for small business is as hostile as I have seen it in my short 50 years. Taxes, wages, insurance, regulatory fees, licensing and input costs have climbed every year that we have been in existence. What we are seeing is an intentional implosion of our individual economic power. Instead of organizing and challenging this economic destruction as a cohesive business community, we are depending on hapless, corrupt and out of touch elected officials who have milked us dry. I am willing to organize with anyone who is willing to take this fight to Beacon Hill, Locally and to our Capitol.

I eat at your place often the meal you provide at the prices you have is one of the best in the south coast, Next time some one does that to you politely decline to give them back their money you don’t need customers like that and trust me as you can see by the comments we are in your side!
