Black staffers demand change on Beacon Hill

Pointing to racist behavior they have faced while working on Beacon Hill, a coalition of Black legislative staffers urged Democratic leaders Wednesday to reform hiring practices, increase workplace supports for people of color, and prioritize the racial justice impacts of bills under consideration.
The Beacon BLOC group, which appears to have unveiled a public presence Wednesday, penned a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Karen Spilka and Secretary of State William Galvin with eight specific demands to make the State House “a place that values and supports Black Staffers.”
We are a collective of Black Staffers at the Massachusetts State House and last week we sent the following letter to @KarenSpilka @SpeakerDeLeo and @BillGalvin4MA with a list of demands if they truly want the State House to be a place that values and supports Black Staffers pic.twitter.com/1jWX86QUAK

The organization also called for Spilka and DeLeo to extend the formal lawmaking session set to expire Friday — something DeLeo proposed on Wednesday — so legislators have more time to complete work on bills critical to Black communities, such as landmark policing reform legislation that is being negotiated by a six-member conference committee and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Give in to BLM or you are racist. All white people must divest themselves and their families of all assets, as these assets have been gained through systemic and systematic racism.
