Besides dislike for New York Yankees, Fall River area sports fans have reasons to root for Los Angeles Dodgers
Most local baseball fans wish that the Boston Red Sox were in the World Series, but that aside, Fall River has several reasons to cheer on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the hated New York Yankees and one of them is a city native.
Former MLB pitcher and Durfee graduate Brandon Gomes has seen a quick and successful rise through the MLB ranks and in January of 2022 become the 12th general manager for the Dodgers since the team moved to Los Angeles.
After pitching five years for the Tampa Bay Rays and 10 years overall in professional baseball, the 40-year-old Gomes became the Dodgers coordinator of pitching performance in 2016. Gomes was then promoted to director of player development in 2017. He continued his rise by being promoted to the positions of vice president and assistant general manager in March of 2019.
The Dodgers have made the playoffs every year since Gomes went into the front office including winning the world series in 2020.
While Gomes is reason enough to pull for Dodger Blue, he isn’t the only one.
Some former Red Sox favorites are part of the 2024 Dodgers including all-star Mookie Betts, Red Sox World Series hero, manager Dave Roberts, infielder Kiki Hernandez, reliever Ryan Brasier, and former Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech.
So, while it is pretty easy for non-Yankee fans in southern New England to root against the Bronx Bombers, there are several valid reasons to do so.
