Authorities investigating after DCYF discloses the near-death of 8-year-old
Providence, R.I. (April 27, 2023) — The Department of Children, Youth & Families is disclosing the near fatality of an eight-year-old youth.
According to DCYF, the incident occurred on April 25th. Pursuant to state law, DCYF has notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.
The Department was involved with this child previously, but not at the time of the incident.
The Department has initiated an investigation into this incident and is currently working with the Providence Police Department.
Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.
Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
