Armed Massachusetts man dies after police-involved shooting
A Massachusetts man has died after reportedly being shot by police.
According to WAMC, police officers responded to a call at 9:45 p.m. on Onota Street in Pittsfield Friday for a 22-year-old man who had cut his face.
After the man refused medical attention, responders left the scene only to return less than 30 minutes later for a call concerning the same man being armed with a knife.
Police stated that the armed man went toward the officers which led to police tasing him twice, but it had no effect on him. As the man continued while armed with the knife, an officer shot him.
According to Pittsfield Police, the injured man was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased at 11:20 p.m.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of the next of kin and the officer’s names have yet to be released pending completion of the preliminary investigation.
