Annual road race to honor deceased Fall River Police Officer Thomas Giunta on 30-year anniversary

An annual Fall River race that honors the memory of a murdered city police officer is set to take place in the coming days.

The Thomas Giunta 5k Road Race is a wheel measured 3.1 mile loop with a course that is open to all runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes.

The race will start at 10:00 a.m. at 320 Airport Road on October 6th.

Long sleeve t-shirts are given to all pre-registered participants. Individual achievement awards will be handed out to the top male and female finishers, kids age group (boy & girl), top overall police officer (male & female), top police team and first wheelchair finisher.

Thomas Giunta was a Fall River Police Officer for 21 years before he was fatally injured in the line of duty on August 24, 1994. Giunta was distributing parking passes for the annual Holy Ghost Feast when he encountered a man who wrestled his weapon away from him and fatally shot him.

The race benefits the Officer Thomas J. Giunta Memorial Scholarship fund and is sponsored by The Fallen Officers Memorial Trust of Fall River Police.

Registration is a $25 non-refundable entry fee.

Pre- Race Pickup and In-Person Registration: Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Fall River Police Department (Community Room) 685 Pleasant Street, Fall River, MA, 02721 – between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM.

Race Day Registration: Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Fall River Elks, 4500 North Main Street, between 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM.
