“Friday’s terrible incidents in Worcester and Braintree have prompted all of us in law enforcement to pause and reflect upon the oath we pledged and the dangers inherent in the public safety mission to which we have committed ourselves.

“Worcester Police Officer Emmanuel Familia’s tragic loss, “Worcester Police Officer Emmanuel Familia’s tragic loss, as he valiantly fought to save the life of 14-year-old Troy Love, who was drowning, and the wounding of Braintree Police Officers Billy Cushing and Matthew Donoghue and the killing of Braintree K-9 Kitt, as they responded to a dangerous domestic incident, redouble our commitment. We are blessed for the opportunity to honor them through continued public service.

“They have modeled for us what is noble and right about law enforcement: service to others above self. It is that spirit that inspires us this day and strengthens our resolve to carry on their decent and good work in support of the people of the Commonwealth.

“The Massachusetts State Police are honored to stand with our brothers and sisters at the Worcester and Braintree Police Departments during this difficult time; we thank them for their partnership and dedication.

“I would also like to recognize Trooper Amy Waterman, who joined with the brave Worcester Officers who entered the water Friday to save the lives of others. Her selflessness and courage are nothing less than remarkable. Thank you.

“To the many MSP officers and forensic technicians who have assisted with the investigations and the processing and searches of these incident scenes, I thank you for your important work.

“Rest in Peace Manny.

“Condolences to the Love family.

“Strength to Officers Cushing and Donoghue in their recovery.

“Run free Kitt.”
