After posting bail, ICE holds New York man on detainer after allegedly stealing $1 million worth of jewelry from Rhode Island store
A man is currently being held after a major jewelry heist.
According to police, on Saturday, Smithfield Police charged 25-year-old Sergio Castaneda Ronderos of East Elmhurst, New York with Felony Larceny Over $1,500 dollars, Felony Conspiracy to Commit Larceny, and Malicious Damage.
These charges stem from an incident on November 1, 2023, in the parking lot of Dave’s Marketplace located at 371 Putnam Pike. In this incident, over a million dollars’ worth of jewelry was stolen. The investigation was conducted by Smithfield Police Detectives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Castaneda Ronderos was arraigned by Bail Commissioner Peter Hopkins who set bail at $50,000 dollars with surety. He was unable to make bail and was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institute. On Sunday, Castaneda Ronderos posted bail; however, was held by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
