FALL RIVER AND SOMERSET- The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is announcing that it will be conducting overnight fence installation operations on the ramp from the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge to Route 79 in Fall River and Somerset. The work will begin on Monday, July 12, and is scheduled to take place nightly, Sunday night through Friday Morning, during overnight hours from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The fence installation operations are anticipated to be completed in approximately five weeks.

All work will be done during the overnight hours, and no further work during the daytime hours of 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM is anticipated at this time.

The work will require that the right lane on Route 6 eastbound be closed to vehicular traffic weeknights from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Standard traffic control will be utilized with police detail officers for various lane and shoulder closures on Route 6 westbound.

The ramp from Route 6 eastbound to Route 79 northbound will be temporarily closed and traffic will be detoured as follows.

Drivers traveling eastbound on Route 6:

-Take ramp to Route 6 eastbound
-Continue on Route 6 East/Davol Street
-Take Route 79 northbound exit (N. Fall River/Taunton)
-Continue on Route 79 northbound (Taunton/Middleboro)

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
