Acting mayor Cliff Ponte responds to Viveiros leaving City Administrator post, temp selected
Acting Mayor Cliff Ponte Jr has issued a response to Cathy Ann Viveiros no longer holding the City Administrator position.
“I would like to thank Mrs. Viveiros for her service to our City. Her hard work, dedication and commitment to Fall River did not go unnoticed during her tenure as City Administrator. Again, I wish her well.”
When we contacted Viveiros earlier today, she issued the following statement.
“They are buying out my contract and accepting my resignation.”
According to Viveiros, the buyout and resignation is effective today.
Viveiros, who has been the City Administrator under Flanagan, Sutter, and Correia, launched a write-in campaign for mayor on October 16th, two days after Jasiel Correia II suspended his campaign and took a leave of absence as mayor of Fall River due to the charges he is facing and the distraction they were bringing to the city. She was defeated by Paul Coogan on November 5th.
Viveiros stated in several interviews during her campaign that she was concerned about the direction Fall River City Hall was headed under a Coogan administration.
Mary Sahady, Director of Financial Services, will take over as City Administrator until Mayor-elect Coogan is sworn into office.
