A Somerset institution is gone, but a new restaurant is set to take over and revitalize the area

While it is sad to see Magoni’s Slade Ferry Landing close, a new refurbished eatery is set to take its place soon.

Magoni’s closed at the end of 2023 and the 1.54 acre property changed hands in the middle of January of this year.

The Gorman family, who owns Sakonnet River Grille and Four Corners Grille in Tiverton along with Palmer River Grille in Warren, will be taking over 681 Riverside Avenue in Somerset under the name of Slade’s Ferry Grille.

According to a Somerset Board of Selectmen meeting, Slade’s will be very similar, but not exactly the same, to Palmer River Grille. It will serve American food such as pasta, steaks, prime rib, fish/chips, scallops and schrod.

The function room will continue to be in operation and the atmosphere will be that of a family restaurant.

David Gorman, who has extensive experience in the industry, will be the manager and chief financial officer of the Slade’s Ferry Grille. Jim Gorman will be the executive chef.

Extensive renovations are currently taking place throughout the property including a new roof, new siding, and new furniture. Once the updates are completed, Slade’s is expected to open for business.

Hours of operation are expected to be Monday to Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday/Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
