A piece of Fall River history goes up in flames as crews battle wind, heavy smoke
Fall River fire crews are battling severe smoke and fire at a building full of city history.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the Fall River Fire Department responded to 277 Brightman Street for heavy smoke and flames showing from a commercial building.
As of 7:15 p.m., crews were still battling those conditions combined with strong winds. Personnel also continued to pour water on an adjacent 3 story residential building in hopes of keeping the damage minimal.
The building is currently vacant, however, it previously housed a casket manufacturer company, the former Village Theatre, the former Pastime Theater, and the former Royal Theater.
The structure was put up for sale earlier this year. It is currently unclear if the building was still on the market.
