Massachusetts teacher accused of having sex chats with male children under 18 has bail set
CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has confirmed that Joshua DeWitte, 50, of Cambridge, a teacher at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, has been arraigned on charges of distribution of obscene matter to a minor, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing material of a child in a sex act for allegedly exchanging videos and photos with minors online.
In December, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program notified investigators of suspected activity on DeWitte’s Snapchat account. The subsequent investigation into this matter revealed that DeWitte was allegedly using Snapchat to speak with multiple male children under the age of 18-years-old. The chats allegedly included conversations that were sexual in nature.
Investigators are actively working to identify the victims in this case.
DeWitte was arraigned in Cambridge District Court. Bail was set at $8,000 and the defendant was ordered to surrender his passport, stay away victims and witnesses, stay away from the school and not to work with children under 18. The next date in this case is January 31, 2025.
