Two Massachusetts defendants pled not guilty, held without bail, concerning shooting that killed Jandriel Heredia, Abraham Diaz, injured 5 others

SALEM, Mass. – Two additional defendants were arraigned this week in connection to a deadly drive-by shooting at 189 Essex Street in Lynn on September 2, 2023, which left Jandriel Heredia, 21, of Revere, and Abraham Diaz, 25, of Lynn, deceased, and five others injured. Lynn residents Abel Severino Reyes, 21, and Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16, were arraigned in Superior Court in Salem. Severino Reyes is charged with two counts of murder as well as four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury. Ramirez Corniel is charged with two counts of murder.

Both Reyes and Corniel pled not guilty to all charges and were ordered held without bail by the Hon. Thomas Drechsler. Assistant District Attorney and Co-Chief of Homicide Jessica Strasnick is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. Corniel was represented by attorney Amy Sixt. Reyes was represented by attorney Vivianne Jeruchim. The two defendants are scheduled to return to court on January 27.

Previously, several other defendants have also been arraigned in connection to the fatal drive-by shooting: Leonardo Espinoza, 15, and Darwin Batista, 20, of Lynn and Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody. Alba and Batista are each charged with two counts of murder as well as four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury. Espinoza is charged with two counts of murder.

All of the defendants were arrested following an investigation by the Lynn Police Department, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, and the MSP Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
