A Fall River man who died suddenly is being remembered.

29-year-old Rui Carlos Gomes-Depina died unexpectedly on Monday, November 11th.

According to Rui’s brother, they believe he had a heart attack. He went to the store and dropped on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

According to an obituary and a GoFundMe fundraiser, Rui was described as a shining light to all who knew him, possessing a quiet strength. Working at a group home, his “dedication to his work with mental health exemplified his compassion and desire to help others. Rui’s commitment to caring for those in need left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the individuals he served.”

Gomes-Depina enjoyed fixing cars, playing basketball, video games, and spending quality moments with his loved ones. His love for hip hop music, his cherished dog Cinnamon, and his unwavering support for family and friends were the cornerstones of his life.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, from 5 – 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River.

Gomes-Depina’s funeral will be held the following day, Saturday, November 23, at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
